Wedding Photographers

At last, the first of the long-promised wedding related posts. Are you surprised that it's coming from me, rather than Diana? Yeah, me too.

We're starting to hone in on a lot of the details surrounding the wedding, although we still have a long way to go. One of the areas I've been put in charge of is selecting a photographer. Getting a good collection of photos is important to me, so it's a job I'm comfortable handling.

We're giving some thought to bringing a photographer with us from the USA--there are some advantages to being able to meet with the photographer before and after the weddding, both to coordinate and to deal with final purchases and prints. However, we're also looking at various "homegrown talents" in Colombia, trying to see if there is a solution there that would make more sense.

We've finally managed to find three good ones there. I'll be sifting through their portfolios myself, but I thought I'd take advantage of a little bit of crowd-sourcing and see what y'all think.

So, click through to the three links below, and look for their portfolios (a.k.a. galerias). Then, come back here, and use the poll just to the right of this post to vote!

The candidates are:

Serrano looks like the best at first glance. They have natural, relaxed pics. Others looked to have a majority of studio/preset photos.

Advice: know what you want from your photographer. They can do just the formal shots, the candid shots at the reception, or real in-everything photo journalism. This may mean having several photographers moving around to get different angles. Having the photographers in the right place makes all the difference for getting the shots that count!

Also look at what they offer on the back end: digital copies, photo rights, album options, online galleries, etc. This can vary greatly depending on the photographer and their skills. Taking the pictures is only the first step in the process!

For reference, we used Abba Photography here in Florida. They came with 2 photographers that worked well together and had a LOT of tips, tools, and emergency supplies that helped the photos (and wedding!) turn out great. They also had fantastic retouch/recolor capabilities (making some partial b/w pics, etc), gave us all the high-res digital files & rights, and made the most awesome album we have ever seen (now one of their demo albums!). The album options sealed the deal for us as that is what we will see & show off for the next 100 years.

Good luck choosing a great photographer to capture your day!

Hey,

Just checking out your blog, seems like you are having a great time on the west coast. I don't know if you've chosen a photographer yet, but if you haven't, check out Kim Fox (www.kimfoxphotography.com). She's an awesome photographer and great to work with.
